The Dana

Although Chicago itself was awesome, about half of the fun of going away was just getting to get out of our cramped apartment and staying in some awesome digs (that are cleaned on a daily basis). Enter, the Dana. The bed: fluffy and huge, the shower: waterfall style, the view: awesomely displayed in floor to ceiling windows.

Plus, they had turndown service. I know, lots of hotels have turn down service. But it's just so awesome to have someone come down and pull back your sheets, close the blinds (which were fairly complicated), and leave you a chocolate. I wish that could happen every day (and yes, I know that if that happened to you every day it would make you Cleopatra or some sort of despot).

Oh, and there is are some really awesome view from the rooftop lounge as well, although it was a little too clubby for our taste.

I'm so happy that we've got almost all of the vendors chosen for the wedding (oh my god, need to do invites still!) because that means I can start focusing on some of the smaller aspects that I can do myself. One of these projects is escort cards. The thing is, despite all of the cool ideas floating around out there, I still haven't found anything that fits into our sort of new Spanish world theme, and is also affordable when you have over 200 on your guest list. But, I really like these olive branches that I saw on OnceWed today.




Of course, the couple typed up people's names with their vintage typewriter (dude, who are these people?) but I think even if you lacked an authentic typewriter it could look cool printed on a regular printer.

How I Met "How I Met"

For a long time some friends of mine had been extolling the virtues of How I Met Your Mother. But for some reason....I was resistant. I guess because the few times I'd watched a few minutes of it there was this obnoxious laugh track that really turned me off. But one lazy Sunday while strolling through Hollywood video (RIP) PB and I decided we needed a new series, and plus I always loved Doogie Howser.

Kids, it is really good! yes, god knows why there is a laugh track, but honestly I laugh out loud as much as at the Colbert Report. But really, the star of the show is Neil Patrick Harris. I mean he actually has talent. As seen here:

P.O.S.H.

We just got back from a wonderful weekend in Chicago (by which I mean full of lots of shopping and bad-for-you food). One of the highlights was getting to stop by P.O.S.H., conveniently--and dangerously--located about 2 blocks away from our hotel. For some reason, it seemed to have all the items I've been looking for: a new blank paged journals, vintage matches for my match collection (well I didn't know I needed those), and some gold buttons for my pea coat. But aside from those treasures they have a ton of great vintage (and vintage style) silverware, dinner wear, plates, glassware, and just cute little knickknack's. I've even added some items to my.registry from the store. It seems like such a great alternative to always buying everything from huge chain stores (convenient as they may be).

Vanessa Jackman

Okay, so the sartorialist is still my favorite and irreplaceable street style blog/phenomena/reminder that outside of DC there is style and beauty. But I recently discovered Vanessa Jackman's blog, and the I relived the excitement I first felt when I discovered sartorialist. And she used to be a lawyer....again confirming my belief that behind every lawyer is a person dying to do something else for a living. Okay just look:

Capes, not just for goths?

I once made a lot of fun of a certain great friend for maybe wearing a cape in high school. Okay, she didn't wear a cape....I was just looking for an easy joke. But, the sartorialist has totally convinced me that capes could be awesome. Behold....

I guess it's because these are more Hollister Hovey than Marilyn Manson. Or maybe you just need some awesome glasses or a duffel Alexander Wang bag to truly make it work (I am going to do a post on studding very soon....).

What do you think? Where do you think we can find some?

Oh anthro.....

Now that I have my dress, I'm free to start concentrating on other things....like accessories. Even though I want my dress to stand out on its own (honestly, I am so excited to own such a beautiful piece of fabric and design), I'm a big fan of large statement making jewelry. Fortunately, the usual suspect (yes, anthropologie) has a TON of great pieces, and they're actually fairly affordable.

Yep, PB and I are headed to Chicago for the weekend. That means affordable brunches, yummy Rick Bayless restaurants, and hotels with fluffy bathrobes. I'm not really sure what I did to get so lucky.

I CAN'T WAIT

So we got this really cute little card from our photographer Matt, of Our Labor of Love, in the mail the other day. I have to say, it totally made me so excited for the wedding (I've been excited about our photographer for a long time!).

I pretty much get excited when anything comes in the mail besides bills.
